Improve the appearance of your smile by reshaping your gums
Gum contouring and grafting may be right for you if your:
Gums are receding
Gums are too low or too high
Gum line is uneven
Tooth roots are visible
These factors can cause accelerated tooth decay, sensitivity and poor aesthetics. The dentists at Northmount Dental Care routinely perform this treatment so your teeth stay strong.
The amount of gum tissue around your teeth and how they are aligned impact the look of your smile. Gum contouring and grafting redefine your gum line so you won't have any reason not to smile! These treatments can make your teeth appear straighter or eliminate a "gummy" smile. Gum contouring and grafting are options to resolve such aesthetic concerns and to treat gum recession and exposed roots.
The gum contouring and grafting techniques we use depend upon your individual needs. We use an Odyssey soft tissue laser to remove excess gum tissue from gums that are too low. We can also sculpt your gums to create a more even smile. This is called gum recontouring.
Lost gum tissue can be regenerated and strengthened with gum grafts. If some of the roots of your teeth are visible due to gum line recession, gum grafting can help protect the roots from decay and sensitivity. There are two types of grafts that we use, connective tissue and free gingival, to cover exposed roots and to improve the health of your gums. Both types of grafts use tissue from the roof of your mouth that is carefully transferred to your gum line.
Dr. Verma or Dr. Kulshrestha will discuss your options for gum grafting and recontouring before you commit to the treatment, and ensure all of your questions are answered. During treatment, we will take every measure to ensure that you are comfortable.
Most dental insurance plans cover gum grafting and contouring because these treatments are considered basic dentistry. Schedule a complimentary consultation with our staff if you aren't certain whether your dental insurance includes these services. We'll help you discover all your options.
